Fatty incursions in the liver, causing irritation. Probably non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), which is often associated with diabetes. Which, as far as I know, I don't have. But they siphoned off 7 vials of blood to check for cholesterol (which has been OK thus far) and insulin levels (my sugar levels have been OK) and to see what's going on with the alkaline phosphatase levels.
And the good news? There is no drug to treat this. Just lose weight and lay off the alcohol. Which I don't drink, and I didn't get fat until after I got this fatigue thing.
Oh, and there was a huge snowstorm last night. About 8-10 inches, and the feathery little ingrates who refuse to come to the bird feeders on the weekends, so I can see them, were all over the bird feeder this morning.
And outside the office window, Cedar Waxwings, which I haven't seen for years. They're so awesome.
UPDATE: NASH isn't the only possibility. There's plain old fatty liver, which is fat without irritation of the liver and NAFLD, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Only a biopsy will tell the difference. Alkaline phosphatase isn't related to any of these conditions.
