Why am I doing this again? Dalia had been asking herself the question all day. Now it was finally time for her to leave work and head over to Crane House for dinner with Duela and Jonathan (and presumably Joshua, who never missed out on an opportunity to condescend to her) and she was still questioning

While Jonathan got his tea, Dalia made her way to where she remembered his study was located. She turned on a lamp, though that didn't do much for the shadowy room and sat down in the high-backed chair across from the desk.

Dalia said nothing, only continued to cry, shoulders shaking a little as she listened to Duela.

Duela held her sister close. "Whatever else happens, Dalia, I'm always here. You can always call me, always come here.

"I should get going," Dalia said, wiping her eyes, quickly trying to compose herself, almost ashamed she'd let her guard down. "Dad's probably waiting up for me."

Duela smiled just a little, touching Dalia's hand. "I understand. Take care of yourself, okay?"

Dalia nodded, moving to stand up. "I will."

"I'll tell Jonathan you had to leave if you don't feel like waiting," Duela offered.

"I don't want to be rude..."

Duela stood, offering a small smile. "It's up to you. It was... It was good to see you. I hope you'll call soon."

"It was good seeing you, too," Dalia said, holding her purse. "I guess...tell Uncle Jonathan I said goodbye...and thanks again...for answering my questions."

Crane appeared with some small plates and a dusty bottle. "Oh, you're leaving?"

Dalia nodded. She was composed now but her eyes were still wet and cheeks tear-stained from crying. "It's getting late. By the time I get back into the City...well, I've got an early morning tomorrow."

"If you must. You could always stay in one of the spare rooms, but I imagine you'd prefer your own bed." He began uncorking the wine. "Forgive me for being inconsiderate and bringing the wine out too late."

"It's not a problem," Dalia said with a small smile. "Thanks for the offer of the spare room...but City traffic isn't something I'd like to have to deal with in the morning...and I told my parents I was working late tonight...Like I was telling Duela, Dad's probably waiting up for me."

"Well, mustn't worry him, then." With that, Crane turned to Duela. "I think I'll be in our rooms with this bottle and a book, until you decide to join me." He smiled at his wife, then moved towards the stairs. "Goodnight, Dalia."

"Good night, Uncle Jonathan," Dalia said. "Thanks again for answering my questions."
