Argh

So I was reading this article on CNN and I was actually starting to feel bad for the lady a little bit.  Until I read further and saw "She said she has had offers."  And this: "She rejected a marketing assistant position paying about California's $8-an-hour minimum wage, because the pay was too low."

Look, lady.  I understand that you want a job ( Read more... )

If he's already working, and she'd be working on top of that- even at a low wage, which, $10 an hour isn't ludicrously low- and they still wouldn't be able to make ends meet, then... wow. That... seems like there should be some ways to reduce cost of living, there.

WSJ is even worse. They profile families hard-hit by the downturn having to sell their second homes and put their kids in public school, and you're like, "Oh, boo hoo."

Oh, those are the worst. About 10 years ago, there was a lady that called into Rush Limbaugh that my dad told me about. She claimed that you can't live on less than $80K a year.

Which, I suppose, means that a very large number of Americans (I think about 75%) are dead people... but they don't know that they're dead.

I hate to say it, but a lot of things bugged me when I read this. First, that she moved from Ohio to California, where the cost of living is probably double. Second, that she's turning down work. And third--and I know this is superficial--but she has been out of work for a year and she still looks like that? If I had a year off I would run five miles a day (in LA you CAN exercise outside year-round, so she can't blame not being able to afford a gym) and do a thousand situps. Maybe she isn't getting the jobs she wants because of her attitude and her slovenly appearance.

My youngest took a low paying job and is now making very good money and he doesn't have a college degree, he wasn't about to spend a year looking for work and turn down what could be a great paying position given time...he likes to eat and as the old saying goes: "it's easier to find a job when you have a job"
so stop feeling sorry for yourself and grow up!
the world doesn't owe you
