Am reading To Say Nothing of the Dog and it makes me full of squee (thanks again, calanthe_b!). So much fun and meta - at least, if I'm not mangling terms and this thing where the author supposes the reader has read the same books and will get the jokes and recognize names is called meta. Sometimes I wonder if the proper way to deal with poems you don't understand but can't forget isn't to write fantasy stories based on them. Though the poem I really can't forget now - William Empson's Missing Dates, would be surely be post-Apocalyptic SF, not fantasy (or is it too shallow a reading?).
