I love Muntjac deer. There are populations of them thriving in the wild in pockets all over England from several escapees from the late 1800's early 1900's. They keep their territories and we have a family that lives in the brushy area a the end of our driveway. We hear them "barking" (they really do sound like small dogs) every night in the spring and autumn :)

I like you pictures. I wasn't aware that they were in England as invasives. I'm going to have to go look up a video of them barking now so I can hear it.

One of many introduced deer species here. They don't really compete for resources and most people prefer them here (they are small and cute). The other interesting introduced/escaped deer population are the Chinese Water Deer. There is a large population of them in East Anglia in the fens and marshes. The species is endangered in the wild in China, but the population is absolutely thriving here without any predators or human pressures on the habitat they live in.

It makes sense given the history of England. That is good to hear that about the Water Deer.

They are so cool. Everyone else can be nuts about wolves and foxes and stuff. I'm sticking with the African Wild Dog.
