OMG!!! I didn't realize

Pitt/CMU have a Computational Biology Phd program. O.o!!!! This is the degree I want. However I would need to take some computer courses at CMU before I could apply. I wonder if there would be a way to gear this toward evolution through the Phd electives...? I think I need to call or visit the Adviser to PITT's Phd program in the College of Arts ( Read more... )

Phylogenetic research looks into the relationship of plants and animals over time. Basically it is a field that is trying to create the ultimate family tree for everything that has ever lived on Earth. What phylogenetic modeling is.. is taking someone's theory on what the tree looks like and where species go and applying statistics and genetic information to see if it is right or wrong. It's basically the study of evolutionary theory.

Population modeling is more an ecological discipline used to monitor and even predict the way populations will fluctuate depending on the environment. This is used a lot of times in conservation to gauge the impact of human activities.

....I'm not sure if that was any easier to understand or not. LOL
