Yikes!

Crossing all applicable body parts for you, and reminding myself to backup photos to DVD asap!

AMEN and thanks. I do however have medium quality versions of them online so that is a little better but yes, I purchased CDs or that once it is fixed.

I hadn't even thought of CDs/DVDs as a backup...

OMFG that sucks! I pray that gambler's fallacy works for you, and this means that the rest of your month/year/life will go really well!

Good luck. If my computer geek can help, you can have him, just ask.

Thankfully the power supply was all that was shot. I am currently transferring it all to a new external and looking at the process of burning all the important stuff to CD/DVD.

AIEEEE!

I"m due to get my new laptop tomorrow with any luck and I"m absolutely convinced I'm gonna lose data before then. Backups are done and I"m still convinced. I didn't think of a hard drive just stopping working. Thanks for putting the image in my head.

Hope the random part makes it work for you

Hugs and Howls....

waiting on a part? does this mean it's a disk inside an enclosure, and maybe the enclosure died but the disk is ok? in this case i'm guessing the part in question looks a little something like this:

It's a card that converts the disk drive to ide so we can use the extra external case we have.

We figure it is the power supply. It was fine the day before yesterday. I turned it off and it was fine then yesterday it wouldn't start. No lights, no nothing. I'm glad there's a second confirmation on it working. :)
