Question for home schoolers

I've been thinking about a career in teaching but I am not comfortable traditional classroom setting. I want something more hands on with smaller groups and I thought home schooling might be the answer ( Read more... )

To tutor a class or two, you need no certifications at all.

If you got your PA teaching certs, you could get hired to be a tutor like in the old days where you taught everything.

And I'm sure there are people who would hire to to teach a class or two, but I'm not sure you could make a living at it.

That is kind of what I figured. Part of it is I want to get some experience in too before I put in another two years to get a certificate.

What about a smaller private setting like the Waldorf School?

That would work too or someplace like Ellis. I was just trying to see if anyone had experience with this.

PALS homeschooling cooperative hires teachers to teach classes at their one-day-a-week sessions which take place over two terms during the year ( ... )

WOW. That sounds really cool. I'd love the forms.

Once I look at the forms and get some ideas I might just have you do a post on the homeschooling list. For the moment I'm just collecting ideas. I wouldn't be able to do anything realistically until after spring term ends for me anyway.

I met a woman here who works at a school called "Circle School" The way she talked about it reminded me of the same ideas behind home schooling. Here's the website and although this particular school is in Harrisburg, there are links to other similar schools on the website.
