Looks like it's time to re-install Windows again. That'd prolly fix my random disconnection issue. And a few other things as well. Nothing else seems to be working to keep me connected, all my equipment tests out as being fine, and I do fiddle around with it an awful lot ( Read more... )

You can do an in place install to fix stuff, but not blow your machine away. Be very careful with it (back your stuff up first), but it can work.

I actually *like* cleaning my machines once in a while though. I think my Tablet needs a reinstall; last time I reinstalled, I went to the Tablet guys and they just imaged my hard drive. It took all of 5 minutes. SO SWEET!

Yeah, I tried an over-the-top install once. It still leaves all these little niggly things behind that keep messing things up. I could, of course, try cleaning out the registry...but there's one area I don't feel confident with. Yet. *insert evil, yet nervous, laugh here*

I do this about once a year or so. I like to start out clean. And I know which files and whatnot to save in order to get the settings back for my favourite things. Actually, I might even just clone the operating partition onto a spare hard drive so's I've got everything saved properly. Actually, yeah, that's a great idea. I'll do that. Thanks for the inspiration. =^.^=

You are doing what I would have to pay others to do for me!

Good luck, and I hope it all works out.

If it was an HP or a Dell, I'd feel differently, but I put this machine together. It's my baby. Well, okay, not quite, but close.

Besides, last time I paid someone to fix a computer problem (when my work puter died around Christmas), they only made it worse, and busted my CD drive in the process. (Yes, they're a reputable company and do good stuff for the school the rest of the time.) So I just don't want to risk it.

I understand your feelings. You understand all your computer's idiosyncrasies because you built it. If you got some generic computer service to do it, even though good or trustworthy, they could so easily make it worse!

Good luck ... again!
