I know this is an old post, but I'm rereading this sporking and I thought: if magical children don't take well to the bottle, what happens to muggle borns?
That's a plot hole that I don't believe the author even tried to resolve. At least the blue light when wizard children are born (so they didn't have to wait for Hogwarts letters to know they're magical, though eleven years here and there couldn't make this fic's timeline any less of a mess) is conveniently invisible to Muggles.
I know this is an old post but really? Killing a baby in the name of grimdark? What, did Petunia have to breastfeed Harry? I highly doubt she'd consider the prospect even if she knew that they couldn't have bottles. Why not show how it would affect the baby? Maybe have the baby possess crying fits that only a picture of Goyle would help with? Just something other than killing the baby you fool! If you really must kill off a baby, do it in a way that is relevant to the plot? How does the baby's death highlight it? Goyle's death was relevant. It showed the risks of pregnancy. But the baby's death feels like getting spat on after you've gotten the shit kicked out of you.
I've heard the term "grimderp", meaning grimdark that goes out the other side and becomes overdone and stupid. This definitely qualifies. In fact, that's why Deserving's original beta quit if the review she left is anything to go by, and she was able to stick it out until Chapter 30-something. No, it doesn't get any lighter.
If you're familiar with Hogwarts Exposed, whether through my review or others, it's also very guilty of this.
