In This World and the Next Intro and Chapter 1

We've seen some pretty terrible Rons in the almost two and a half years I've been doing these reviews. Dark Secrets gave us Ron the Death Eater in a very literal sense, who also abused Jaiden because he somehow thought that was the best way to keep her on his side. Betrayed Revenge gave us the previous Ron as a vengeful spirit given life by ( Read more... )

Oh, boy... This is going to be fun. And by "fun" I mean "horribly painful for all of us".

I take it you're familiar with this fic already. It's rather like Hogwarts Exposed, in that what seemed bad at a skim read is downright horrible when analysed in more detail.

I ran into its TV Tropes page at some point and wondered when it was going to pop up on your journal. Doubly so when you mentioned it during your HTE sporking.

I was not disappointed.

Yes, I was involved in making and updating that page. Been doing some work on it today as well, mostly elaborating about the sexism but also addressing the author's overuse of comma splices and underuse of capital letters.

Taking another HTE break, szaleniec?

I haven't decided whether this is to run concurrently with the HTE review or not. ITWATN's author had this to say about it:

Just something that tunnelled through my Occlumency barrier and wouldn't grant me any peace until I wrote it

I was rather the same way with its sporking.

Well, it'd be cool if you could run them concurrently. I'd prefer we continue with HTE, though, considering it being the utter turd of the fanfic pile...

Concurrently is how I'll probably do it. I have to admit that ITWATN took me a little by surprise; I was expecting bad as in The Last War, but it's closer to bad as in Hogwarts Exposed.

In the almost eight months since he defeated Voldemort his world had turned upside down, the ring in the box was destined for the only constant in his life since he was eleven years old.

Now, I know that wars and conflict can make a young man get married to a young woman earlier in life due to the fleeting nature of life as a whole, but COME ON, man!

You've just gotten done with one of the toughest challenges of your entire life, and you're thinking about MARRIAGE, of all things?!

I mean, what? Did the Death Eaters somehow reform during that time and now they're a new, still deadly threat or something!?

He now understood discovering Hermione that fateful morning after the battle, crying outside the castle was the pivotal event that changed his life

Hey, szaleniec! Remember all of those hints and implications that Ron was an abusive twat toward Hermione during Deathly Hallows?

Remember how their passionate and rather hilarious kiss after the Room of Requirement wound up devolving into a bloody beatdown of Hermione at Ron's hands?

Yeah, neither do I.

Presumably, this author's version of the final battle had Harry call Voldemort a pillock and describe his philosophy as bobbins.

Pillock and bobbins being rather mild insults, I'm guessing?

What do they mean, exactly?

"Pillock" = "idiot", "bobbins" = "trash".
