Like you said, it's like they got Dietz to write it. And, story aside, it doesn't even make sense from a game design perspective: everything you've done over the past >100 hours of gameplay (if you've played 1 and 2) is pushed aside for the sake of a single three-way choice.
I'd classify the ending as a Downer Ending* mixed with Deus Ex Machina** and Gainax Ending.
*The delusions about the endings being Bittersweet are idiotic. A Bittersweet ending still has some sort of something that leaves a bit of hope in the players' mind. For God's sake, RED DEAD REDEMPTION had a more positive and upbeat feeling to it than Mass Effect 3!!
** And I must say, the God-Child-Thing is easily one of the most literal examples of it I've ever seen.
So I noticed you liked the Angry Joe "Top 10 Reasons We Hate Mass Effect 3's Ending" video.
Excellent choice. Whenever someone who likes the endings asks me why I don't like the endings, I usually give him a few reasons and then suggest they watch the video for a better picture. Joe can have articulation problems sometimes(considering his Puerto Rican accent), but he really speaks well in that video...

And you know what the weirdest thing about the endings are? They were written by Mac Walters!
