Are you using a neti pot at all to get out the extra mucus? I can't remember if you are one of the people I've talked to neti pots about. I highly recommend them!
Last year, my allergist had me using a plastic squeeze-bottle version of that little device: it feels just as weird as you'd imagine it feeling, but not in an unpleasant way, and it does work quite well. I actually found myself looking forward to the procedure after I got the hang of it.
The only problem, of course, is that bathroom sinks almost always have mirrors behind them, and you will see yourself looking more ridiculous than you ever before thought possible.
