Temper tantrum rooms are very popular in Japan. If you're ever really interested, check out how they do it over there; I'm sure you could get some great logistical ideas.

I do believe the rusty shack and elevator depth are canon. So, blame it on Stargate Engineering (it's a subset of Stargate Skience) *g*.

They have enough alien tech to build a starship underground, and you don't think they've got enough alien tech to either a) hide a wheel house or b) find some other way of making a ginormous elevator? Piffle!
