Summary: "This happened to him. It can't happen to me." How Alex Drake discovers that the man she really fears is none other than Sam Tyler.
Notes: It's very odd how "Ashes to Ashes" (the song) can be interpreted to be partially about Sam, while "Life on Mars" (the song) fits a bit with Alex. As much as I hate the notion of vidding a song that's so crucial to the soundtrack of one of these shows, this one was just too perfect to pass up. It really lended itself to go somewhere INSANE.
Here Sam becomes a villain. He's Major Tom and what he's addicted to is death. (More specifically it's the idea of wanting to die, hence his constant suicidal behavior.) In the end he, of course, succeeds. Alex, as his psychologist, knows this. So when she ends up in his fantasy with what she thinks is a bullet in her head, her number one priority is to get out! Her objective becomes to live and, therefore, what scares her the most is not Arthur Layton, the man who shot her, or the Bowie Clown that's constantly after her, but the horrifying idea that she's experiencing the same things that happened to Sam who, in the end, died in both worlds.
