as an international student you should want the union to help out. you're apart of the most marginalised group in the university, without the union there would barely be any services available to you. ive tried to deal with the university itself about international students issues at sydney and other universities and feankly they all suck. basically they take your money and thats about it.

No the union does not fund board candidates' campaigns. This is a good thing, but it comes with its own set of problems. The results often come down to who is able to fork out the most money for their campaign - every cent allowed under the spending cap (and sometimes sneakily more) is needed to win. Most of the time the only people who even bother running are those who have the financial support of an organisation or their parents' credit card behind them ( ... )

frankly i think a better way of disseminating infromation would be a university radio station. but that would be funding the arts in the university, which is *frowned upon* and people would start to complain about their ears being berrated. you cant win, people just dont like politics.

oh no, a radio station would be perfect. all the union people etc can rant till theyre blue in the face and the rest of the world can completely ignore them and not tune into that station.

(ps, how is radio 'the arts'?)
