So i watched the Extended Eddition of the movie Dune and I believe it is my favorite.  The motherfiucker's nearly 3 hours long so I think it's not too bad.  I would KILL for a workprint of that movie, but I'd need it to be good quality so that it didn't ruin me.

I'm must say that Dune is one of my all-time favorite movies!!!  Here's what makes ( Read more... )

Didn't you watch my bootleg extended cut back in the summer of 98?

As for the workprint, all you have to do is mix the footage from the standard theatrical version and the extended version, and presto you have all 4 hrs. worth of the footage (the extended leaves out some things the theatrical has).

People claim that Sci-fi Channel used to show this rare "4 hour cut", which is rubbish. What it means is that they showed the 3 hr. 10 min. extended cut (from the original 1993 Japanese laserdisc), and padded it out with 50 min. of commercials.

Yes, its a great film, and I too prefer the extended, though one day I shall make that integrated cut for sure. It wouldn't take more than an afternoon to put one together.

yea, in the wiki article it says there's different variations, but the exended is the "Alan Smithee" version that was intended for TV. The thing that's nice is the sound is all cleanup and redone in 5.1 (the voice pans around when it repeats, drooolll), and it's in the original widescreen.

I do remember the japanese laserdisk of yours. I thought that one was longer because it kept re-using shots over and over, and it had more scenes with Paul and Chani. Not sure. I should watch that again some day to see the difference.

Oh yea, and Michael Bolton is one of the drum players in the final scene too!!! LOL Forgot to mention that in my list!

I have always LOVED that movie, even when I was a kid and didn't understand any of it. I know the 1st AD from the filming and have worked with his kid. The apple fell a little too far from the tree.
