Okay, Dolf wouldn't lie and say he had been completely okay with the children the moment they arrived. Shocked was a good word. Shocked, surprised, dumbfounded, flabbergasted: all good words. Blown out of the water. That kind of thing ( Read more... )

Femke was fidgeting with her dress with one hand, and using the other to eat a sandwich. Which tasted odd and alien but she thought she sort of liked it. Or maybe it was just the relief of being able to babble along in Diets again, while Dolf nodded in places and gave commentary.

She kicked her legs out and picked up another sandwich.

Beren had been rather insistent to go exploring once he'd had enough coffee in him that morning, and Faramir found it rather hard to deny the boy anything.

So much of the morning had been spent being dragged along by a five year old and answering an endless steam of questions. Often, Faramir did not even have an answer. It did not seem to matter much to Beren and somehow Faramir had ended up promising the boy to introduce him to one of his friends here.

Somehow the first person coming to mind was Dolf, which would be why there came a knock at the door while Faramir explained that Dolf was neither Elf, Dwarf, vampire or Halfling.

Dolf had Femke's hand in his as he went for the door. She had been a little scared, and had plastered herself to his side since the moment he'd seen her.

... He wondered if this was about more children. He opened the door. "Faramir?" he said, his blond head bobbing in front of the half-open door, quickly to be followed by Femke's only slightly-less-blonde one.

"Good morning, Rudolph," Faramir greeted, his attention quickly moving towards the small girl and his lips curved in amusement. At least they were not the only one affected. "And good morning to you, my lady," he added with a bow towards the girl.

"Good morning!" Beren was somewhat bouncy thanks to the caffeine and he grinned broadly as he mimicked Faramir. "I am Beren!"

Femke frowned, as if she wasn't quite sure what to do with that much enthusiasm. "I am Femke," she finally countered, with a little step forward that was supposed to simulate Beren's exuberance a little. She wasn't sure what the protocol was, among English-speaking people. She looked up to Dolf for confirmation.

There came a rapping, tap-tap-tapping. From rather low down on the door, as Sjoerd insisted that he wanted to knock, please. (Possibly because doors you actually knocked on were something of a novelty for him.)

"We come bearing breakfast," Cally added, just in case Dolf was wary of yet another unfamiliar little face showing up.

"Oh, good," Dolf sighed, coming off the bed to cross the few feet from said bed to the door. "I think Femke is getting hungry."

So was he, but shhh. Don't listen to his stomach growling.

Sjoerd held up the big white bag in his hands. "We got food from the God of Biscuits!" His voice dropped a little. "Mummy says he's not a real god...probably. But maybe we shouldn't say so at the shop just to be careful."

Dolf stepped out of the way so that woman-and-child could make their way in. "Always be careful about gods," he said, "Especially ones other people want you to believe in."

He snuck Cally a look.
