duuude, thou art chicagoan? cool! I am only Chicagoan by birth and by transplant but I didn't grow up here. that neighborhood portraits thing is really cool! I KNOW A GIRL IN THE HYDE PARK ONE OMG I LIVED WITH HER LAST YEAR :D
Yep! Grew up there! Don't live there now, but thinking of moving back soon-ish, depending on how much life cooperates. I miss it, and my boyfriend wants to move someplace where his family would consider visiting us.
Moving's hard, though. And I'd miss my cheap rent. . .
And I always find it SO WEIRD when people I know show up in public art. My grandmother ended up getting painted on a viaduct outside of a metra station (don't think it's there now, it'd be like 15-20 years old), and it always kind of freaked me out. O.o
That is SO COOL about your grandmother. ... Maybe a little freaky, yeah. But I never thought that those were real people, except for the ones that are known historical personages! That is so wonderful! :D
Yep, they're real people from the 70's and 80's-one day, someone stopped her when she was getting off the train and asked if they could take her picture and interview her for an art project. . . ten years later, she was captured just as she was in life-fifteen feet tall and perpetually grumpy. :D
Edited to change the emoticon: my grandma was both grumpy and awesome.
