Nostalgia's warmth is all we need

It's weird how things effect us the way they do. Even things we don't particularly like now. For example music. At times cheesy trance circa 99-01 makes me think of an odd period of my life.

Sure - my trip, alone, to Europe when I was in my mid 20s really changed who I was. I used to be a bit of a shy sheep, just following my more outgoing friends. When I traveled by myself I had to shoulder the burden of meeting people and organising things. I've never looked back! Being a teacher in the UK, which requires a lot of being tough with kids helped too. I was massively unpopular in school. Half the time, particularly in Primary school, even my closest friends didn't really like me.

What course did you do first?

Everything shapes us in to who we are, but we tend to most acutely remember the very good and the very bad. Sometimes we learn hard lessons very quickly during difficult times, so there's this sense of tangible change because of whatever you've learnt, hence it being memorable. Lessons learnt from really happy times in my life have most often happened upon reflection, and not during (except for travel, where good and bad intermingled very closely). All of life is a learning experience. :)
