Nostalgia's warmth is all we need

It's weird how things effect us the way they do. Even things we don't particularly like now. For example music. At times cheesy trance circa 99-01 makes me think of an odd period of my life.

Especially this!

Anyway, in high school I was amazingly extraordinarily shy (yes, I know that all seems very amusing now). I had friends but we never did anything more exciting than go to the movies. I didn't drink and of course never dated anyone. Such is the life of a female dork. After I graduated high school I was going out three nights a week. In a course I couldn't stand. Also I was dating a man ten years my senior who had a lot of drug problems (watching him shoot up speed in front of me one was a highlight of my time with him). So my weekends and listening to my clunky Discman on the hours train journey to uni. Sure, it was fun and exciting and times but also rather confusing for me. I met a few people that I am still friends with today.

So, do you think difficult periods in our life help us grow and sometimes define who we are? Please put all answers in a stamped self addressed envelope.
