So, I was perusing Wonkette today, when I stumbled across this article, which is Relevant To My Interests.

Why Daddy is a Republican. Again, because he's an asshole, but that's not what I want to talk about.

Last comment was made on like no sleep, so here's my better comment. I'd just like to point out, I'm not sure I agree with you on the morality of "pushing political beliefs on [one's] impressionable children". Like, isn't a parent supposed to teach what they believe to be right and wrong? If they aren't, then who is ( ... )

Parents are of course supposed to teach their children right and wrong, but I don't think that politics needs to be a part of it. Why tell your children that "Stealing is wrong because Republicans/Democrats think it's wrong"? Why not just "Stealing is wrong?" My parents never talked about politics when I was a kid. But I came to their political party of my own accord based on the values that I learned from them, not because they needed to preach to me about how Democratic those values were.

Politics, much like religion (which I also don't think parents should force on their children), are very personal and deeply-held beliefs for individuals. A parent can guide their child towards what they think is right, but I feel that these books go beyond that: they're targeting very young children who are still reading picture books - children who may not even know what a Republican or a Democrat is yet ( ... )
