So, I was perusing Wonkette today, when I stumbled across this article, which is Relevant To My Interests.
Why Daddy is a Republican. Again, because he's an asshole, but that's not what I want to talk about.
The book is probably a response to this fella's work. Now, I'm not here to talk about how grossly immoral and unfair it is for parents of either leaning to push their political beliefs onto impressionable children who depend on them for food, shelter, and clothing. What I want to talk about are the illustrations. Because as an aspiring children's book illustrator myself, I am personally offended by the chicken scratches they chose to publish in this book.
I mean, seriously...WTF? It's even worse than King and King, IMO one of the ugliest children's books on the market. At least with King and King, though, you can tell that the artist didn't just drop her shitty linework into Photoshop to color it. I can look at any illustration from King and King and see the love and care that went into each and every page. Likewise with the illustrations from this atrocity's polar opposite, Why Mommy is a Democrat. The lifelessness in Why Daddy is a Republican, though, just leaves me feeling cold, empty, and cheated...not unlike the policies of the Republican party! *rimshot*
On the one hand, I'd love to say to myself, "Well, if shitty work like that can get published, then I'll have no problems!" I mean, hell, the artist doesn't even have a website. Unfortunately, since the book is self-published, that doesn't really mean a whole lot.
All that being said, I'm totally buying this book for the lulz.
