Oh, and let's not forget the jokes we tell that go WAY over other people's heads, only because THEY don't get it, somehow they're entitled to stare at us like we've got three eyes or something. Like, "Oh, I'm too ignorant to get your joke, so I'm going to treat you like a jerk."
Yup...ignore me...I'm in people-hating mode.
But I have to admit that some people who laugh at their own jokes are kind of...eh. It's one thing if they're genuinely amused by it, and they're just trying to be amusing to other people...but I had an internship boss last summer who was just sleazy about it. The jokes were fine, a bit corny, but he was always talking himself up to me like I was supposed to be super-impressed by him, all hero-worshipping style, so when he laughed at his own jokes, it just seemed egotistical and tasteless.
"I was supposed to be super-impressed by him": This is where the I-can-laugh-at-your-shitty-jokes-to-survive skills really come in handy!
:)
I laugh at my own jokes, mostly because I'm just a big giggly dork. Doesn't seem to bother my friends when I do it. But maybe they're all politely laughing too. Hee!!
Oh, I'll laugh at a skeazy attempt to impress me if my job depends on it. :-) The thing I didn't mention was that at times, I got the impression that my boss was trying to hook up with me or something...over the phone. ::shakes head:: I laughed at his jokes to keep my job, but I definitely took every opportunity to curb his unprofessional curiosity about me. I'm pretty sure he took it personally, though, and that's probably why he stopped returning my job-related calls and we now haven't talked in a year.
I definitely laugh at some of my silly jokes, too. Like you, I also find corny jokes amusing. I think they're cute. It just depends on the context and from whom it comes.
