The elevator ride from the 27th floor takes about 60 seconds. They stand as far apart as possible and stare at the elevator doors.
Kalinda thinks Are you OK are the kids OK are you coping are you crying do you blame me do you hate me do you hate me will you talk to me again properly will you talk to me again like you used to like you trusted me do you need any help I would help you I’d do anything I’d do anything for you you’re the only one in my life I miss you I miss you I’m so sorry.
They reach the ground floor. Kalinda says “Goodnight,” and walks to her car.
Oh GAH. That one little stream of consciousness did ALL SORTS of pully stuff with my heart. KALINDA. IF ONLY ALICIA KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON IN YOUR PRETTY SAD HEAD. brb dying.
I'm so glad you're writing, Flump. Really, really great stuff. *grabs for more*
The rush of thoughts undercut by the one line of dialogue works fabulously here. Not only does it highlight the contrast between the Kalinda we see and the Kalinda that we don't get to (save the actual elevator scene this season) but it amplifies the emotion, too.
Nice job of fitting so much into such a perfect, small space. :)

That was so... painful! Gah! The angst! It hurts so good! Short, sweet and upsetting. Thanks for sharing!
