I really hate how people give up things for lent just because everyone else does. My church has never urged me to give up anything, nor have I really been taught that I have to five up something for lent. Yeah, I was talking to a friend of mine the other day trying to decide what, if anything, I should give up for Lent, and when I mentioned chocolate, she was like, "Is giving up chocolate really going to help you grow closer to God?" I laughed. I'm still going to work on avoiding culinary excesses (wow that made me sound like a prick), but the main things I'm focusing on are much more important than all that. So amen to your post. :)
