Note to my child self

Dear eight-year-old swankivy,

This is a letter from yourself in the future. There are a few things I thought you might want to know.

  • You won't actually get much taller. Your adult height will be 4'11". Don't worry about it.

  • You'll still think kissing boys is gross when you're a grown-up. You don't have to do it.

  • School will be boring and ( Read more... )

friends, philosophy, personality, family

I'd like my future self to send me a copy of all of my books I'm struggling with.
But it would be cheating though. But still! All of my books!
I still haven't learned to drive. And people forced me to go to every single prom. I didn't want to! I wanted to stay home and listen to Mozart. Now that I'm an adult I can listen to Hannah Fury and Emilie Autumn (I just got into them) and NOT have people bother me about stupid dances with bad music and not have to wear a DRESS.

Dear thirty-three-year-old swankivy,

This is a letter from yourself in the future. I thought you might want to know some things that might encourage you. In the future, you will be a bestselling author. It won't be easy to get there-you'll be rejected many times by literary agents and publishers. Sometimes, you'll feel discouraged. You'll wonder if the friends who like your novels are biased; you'll wonder if you need to overhaul your writing completely to make it publishable. But you won't give up, and you'll be glad you didn't. In the not-so-distant future, your efforts will pay off, and all the uncertainty will seem worthwhile. You have the talent to get there, so don't let your enthusiasm fade-it'll all turn out to be worth it.

Sincerely,

You

That's funny, you don't write like my future self! :D

Thanks for the sentiment. ;)

Ha ha, I know. I was going to try to imitate your style, but then I realized how impossible it would be and threw verisimilitude to the winds.

Or maybe your future self just writes a lot like me. ;-)

You left off "Avoid Gary, at all costs."

But if I don't meet Gary, how will I know what NOT to look for in a friend? I need poor examples!

The coolest point has got to be:
"After you get your own computer, you'll be able to make multi-layered singing tracks to do harmony with yourself, like you always wanted to."
^___^

Gawd, I tried so hard to do multi-tracks with my double-deck tape player. It never worked. :(
