Well written but . . . . paddie1980 November 13 2010, 03:28:42 UTC
You need the next chapter, where Lancelot and Gwaine come to rescue Gwen and they escape and Arthur & Merlin find a way to bring her back as a royal princess from a far away land. Perhaps Merlin could conjure gold coins and riches and a retinue of hundreds from some old pumpkins and rats (a la Cinderella). The spelling of the name would be the same but the pronunciation would be different, e.g., GuinEvere or Jennivere. Of course, then Arthur would have to know that Merlin was magical. Details to be sorted out. That's okay though because, Arthur would know that he could have the one that he loved by his side ( ... )

Well I did label it as angst. ^^ And no, I think very few people like to see a person executed, but I don't think that necessarily detracts from a story (there was an absolutely breathtaking story posted over at the fest in which Gwen DOES die, and I have to say it's one of my favorite pieces that I've read).

To paraphrase G K Chesterton, we know there are monsters, we need these tales to remind us that monsters and evil kings can be defeated.

True, but stories shouldn't only be escapism. Life isn't always happily ever after, and if writers ignore that then I think they do a great disservice to the reading public. Don't get me wrong, I love happily ever afters (my DVD and book collections are filled to the brim with RomCom/Chick-lit), but every once in a while I need a nice cry as well ( ... )

I understand the fear 100%. I know a lot of people compare Gwen to Marian (there was a LOT of that going on last year when the trailer featuring the dragon zeroing in on Gwen appeared), but I really think there's nothing to worry about. Robin Hood took place DURING the legend. Merlin has yet to reach it. They simply can't kill of Guinevere. She becomes queen, and they're going to end the show around the time Arthur ascends the throne. =)

Thank you so, so much. That really means a lot. I'm always quite nervous about characterization, so I'm relieved that you think I did Gwen justice.

I honestly think they do get their happily ever after. That just want's the point of this fic in particular (and I'm hesitant to write a sequel because I feel that it would take away from what I was trying to accomplish with this piece). =) Thankfully you have threemeows's absolutely amazing fic to give you your happy ending.

*Smishes* thanks, darling. I'm addicted to angst. It's baaaaaaad. (Though funnily enough I've LOVED Arthur/Gwen this series even though they've basically been adorable bunnies frolicking in the flowers...maybe that's why I'm so excited for tomorrow? XD)

Beautifully written! I love the angst! You wouldn't happen to have the link of the fic you mentioned above when responding to a comment do you? I believe you said something about Gwen actually dying in the fic. I'd really appreciate it if you do. Once again thanks for this, it helped make the wait for episode 10 less painful :)
