assuming that since you bought it from amazon.co.uk, that nz is on the same video standard as they are?

Yes, we use PAL. But more importantly than that most TVs, videos, and so on sold here support both PAL & NTSC, and most DVD players have menu options to change zones. We're all very used to getting content from around the world.
