Chuck Palahniuk just came up in a book I'm reading as a writer 'who gets it right!' so he's on my list of authors to check out. Some great stories there, thanks :-)

You gotta love Chuck.

I'd be intrested to know which book you read first and at what point you find yourself squirmming. Oh, and I suppose also what you think of said book :o)

Oh, Chuck Palahniuk is really good. I found Invisible Monsters from a song reference, and went on to read Choke. I keep meaning to read/watch Fight Club.

Banana Yoshimoto. Through a collection of short stories my father got for me in Italian. The collection and my favourite story are both titled "Lucertola".

I have found many new authors though anthologies. It is one of my favorite ways to do it. You get to experience their writing style while reading some of your other favorite authors.

I agree, I've found some great writers through short stories. I do read them, but I never have quite the same excitement before hand :-)

Did I ever! I read the anthology, My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding edited by P. N. Elrod and was totally delighted with Charlaine Harris' contribution, "Tacky", after which I practically inhaled her Sookie Stackhouse series(in which "Tacky" was set).

I was already a big Sookie fan when MBFSW, came out, it was one of the reasons I bought the anthology :-)

I read it for Jim Butcher's Dresden Files contribution. :)

Greaat, a giveaway! (Found this thanks to SRB's tweet.)

1st Entry: In fact, I find new authors through short stories all of the time, as I am an avid reader of anthologies. My favourite example (although nothing fantasy-related) is German author Rabea Edel. I read one of her short stories and ended up buying her debut novel, Das Wasser, in dem wir schlafen (The Water We're Sleeping In), which didn't let me down. :)

2nd Entry: Twittered!

3rd Entry: Blogged!
