For the past two years at UBC, I have busted my fucking ass at school, making goddamn sure that I am taking all the courses required for my degree, and have been passing everything (just barely at times, but 51% is a pass). It may have taken me an extra year to do, but in April, I finished third year, and next year, my last year at school, I

The woman I spoke to said that many other students were calling and freaking out too (understandably so--if you're expecting to be promoted to 4th year, which is a pretty big fucking deal, and you're not, you're going to freak out because your graduation is in jeopardy). So I wonder if they only realized the error after all these phone calls?
Wow, that's pretty fucking rude of the admin...
Why does UBC fuck students around so much?! Thank goodness microbiology has its own undergrad advisor (apparently, not all faculties do), and one who is helpful, at that. (In fact, Dr. Ramey even replied back to me with the info contained in the email.)

If they do this every damn year, needlessly freaking out students, you'd think they would STOP DOING IT!
I've had so many barriers in trying to get my education, and I'm not even confident that I will graduate next year--I fear something will stop me.
Our mutual acquaintance, J, told me that UBC fucked her over and she was not promoted to 4th year when she should have been.

2. UBC has fucked me over before.
3. I've had so many set backs in my education, and I have a feeling that I won't graduate because something bad is going to happen, so understandably, I thought not being promoted was it. You have no idea how much graduating means to me. No one does.

Hope they fix it for you soon!

What is your major? Have you made sure that you met all the requirements for promotion in your major?

The only lower-level requirement that I'm missing is 3 credits of stats, I was planning on taking BIOL 300 (needs 3rd year standing) rather than STAT 200. Other than those missing credits, the only thing that I can see hindering me is the 'more than 78 credits' bit... But I emailed both science advising (the general email) and the advisor for the General Science program. Hopefully someone comes back with 'oh, we just haven't gotten around to promoting you yet!' rather than 'you fail at life, go away'.

also tried emailing them, but haven't gotten anything back yet!

My advisor emailed me within 20 minutes. I don't think it has ever taken him more than an hour to get back to me about something. Also, a few hours later, when I got the email from UBC telling me what had happened, my advisor, not knowing whether or not I had seen that email, emailed me again letting me know about it. He didn't have to do that. He certainly puts in the effort and cares about his students, and does his job well.
