Books I have read: 2009

Jul 17, 2009 22:50

All my life I've been an avid reader (when you don't have any friends, there's not much else to do), however, since I started school in 2006, the number of books I've read has become quite pathetic, and every year, that number goes down. I really want to try and read books on a more regular basis, even if it's just one or two a month. But I'm so ( Read more... )

I've had the Hosseini and Nemat books on my amazon wishlist for quite awhile. When I'm done finals do you think I could borrow one or both? I'll post a list of my books and maybe we can trade for a bit!

I borrowed Prisoner of Tehran from the library (trying to save money!), so I can't lend it to you, but you are more than welcome to borrow the Hosseini books from me (I have The Kite Runner as well, if you haven't read that). I hope to read a few books in August!

By the way, we should hang out sometime in the near future!

Oh ok...I've actually read the Kite Runner but I'd like to borrow the other sometime. Thanks!

And yes, we should do something. I have loads of papers and exams etc. coming up but are you doing anything Friday afternoon, say between 2:30 and 6:30?

I have my final exam on Friday, but it should be over by 1pm, so yes, I am free.

Are you on Goodreads? I just signed up for it and it's pretty fun, for some reason.

I have no idea what that is!

http://www.goodreads.com/ - it's a social networking site centred around books. Basically you say what you're reading, can update with what page you're on, and give ratings to books you can read. It's interesting to see what other people are reading, and also can be nice just to track what you have read recently.

Might be interesting to see what other people are reading, but I barely have the time to read, let alone post what I have! I like to keep list in my LJ so that I can keep track of what I've read.

I love reading too. My quota has reduced a lot*. Lately, I hop into bed and tell myself I'll read a bit before sleep, but I keep waking up with the light on and haven't read a word!

I used to love reading encyclopaedias too.

*I've remembered to type 'a lot' since you pointed out 'alot' wasn't in fact correct :)

When I attempt t read in bed, my eyes get tired after 15 minutes!

I hope you weren't offended about the a lot/alot thing!

Nope, not offended. I usually look at things objectively and take it on board mainly because I'm a people-pleaser. Sometimes it's a bad thing, but in this case, it's a good thing :)

And I think the post I mentioned it in was one about grammar, etc, so it's not like I just out of the blue corrected you!

No, not yet. I had heard of the author, but didn't know any of his books. I simply picked up The Wasp Factory because someone mentioned it on an LJ book community, and it sounded interesting. (Have you read it?) But I am going to look at his other books in the library, and if one sounds interesting, I'll check it out. Unfortunately I don't get a chance to read much, and when I pick up books, they are usually random books that I've heard of from people or LJ communities, and they sounded interesting.

Are there any in particular that you recommend? I'm not keen on science fiction, so I will stick to his other books. I'm just interested in interesting stories!
