Fun with Molecular Genetics

So far, 335 is much easier than 334, and is going at a really slow pace (hopefully we don't get a ridiculously difficult exam with material that we've never seen). Also, most of it is stuff I've already learned before (but in far less detail), so it's a nice little review.

On Friday, the lecture was on cloning, and the teacher briefly went over ( Read more... )

I wish I could understand that too!

Basically--the pUC19 plasmid, which is a plasmid that you can order, has the gene in question. So instead of answering with the procedure on how to get that gene from one cell into another, my answer was "order it!"

Got it. You are a clever chicken!

Technically it was a correct answer. In real life, you'd just order the plasmid if possible!

I think your class is where dal fails. They've been condensing science classes so much that second year chem topics are pushed in to first year, and so on.

I suspect much similar is happening in the genetics class I took, which was a one term class, but you're now covering stuff we covered in that class.( albeit not well, because no one did well on the exam of "wait, mystery topic applications! Material we haven't seen! a second year exam with a third year course number!)

My dal credits were translatable into an extra half credit at UBC, ( so where they were 2 at dal, they'd be 2.5 or whatever.)

Interesting. My york U chem tutor noticed it as well with chemistry classes.

0.5 of a credit--whoo! So helpful!

they would have added up. ( something like UBC saw dal bio labs as a separate 3 credit hour class or something). Given the number of full year classes at dal: most of their courses are 2 term...

Which was also hellish annoying doing a schedule. There were so few one term classes. Grah.
