Chemotaxis! Kinase! Ciprofloxacin! Lipopolysaccharide!

On Wednesday night, I was bored, had some spare time, and had a wave of inspiration, in addition to being a total loser, so I made a personal ad on Craigslist in the "women seeking men" section. This time, I decided to try a different approach, and post an ad that was a little different than the usual, "Hey, these are my interests and this is what ( Read more... )

I had no idea that I would get the response I did! But it's nice to know that a piece of good writing got some attention!

that's a 4-star ad. from what i've seen about
online dating sites, you just eliminated near
95% of the males on there with that ad :))

it was probably taken down by those who saw a
little too much of themselves in it. you
should put it on plentyoffish.com and see
what happens!

Not a five star ad? :P

Ugh, POF is worse than CL! I think I have given up on POF--just too many bad emails. I may post a modified version of this on OK Cupid later, I'm not sure.

is okcupid any good? a friend in the UK
is using it, yet he keeps complaining
about pretty yet stupid women...i fear
the men will be the same?

oh, i meant 4 out of 4 :) should have
clarified my rating scheme in advance!

OK Cupid still has its fair share of losers, so while it isn't great, it's much better than POF. At least from personal experience. I have met a couple of people off of OK Cupid, one which didn't work out (oh well), and one which may be working out.

Also, it is better than POF for technical reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of people on the site. For example, at least the last time I was on POF, apparently, all emails that you have sent or received are deleted after 30 days, so you can't save emails, which is handy for referencing things. OK Cupid has a limit on the number of emails you can save (300, which is reasonable), and they don't automatically delete emails after a short period of time.

I was thinking, "4/5? How odd!"

I also like the general layout and appearance of OK Cupid. And even if you don't meet someone, at least you can do silly quizzes to pass the time.

I love it! It reminds me a little (minus the references to sex) of something I had to write for a school assignment when I was 17. We had to write an ad/description of what we were looking for in a partner and 99% of the class wrote "good looking," "sense of humor," or "nice." All of the standard platitudes. I, however, wrote two pages of specific standards like these. Some of the people in the class thought I did it to be funny only, which leads me to believe that your ad was pulled for the same reason.

By the way, I've been trying to read and catch up in your journal even when I can't reply. Most of the time I can read, but I can't type (toddler bouncing/climbing on lap).

Of course I want someone who is "good looking", but I pretty much covered that in the part about physical attraction! However, the qualities I was looking for were most certainly not a joke! I will outright reject an email or an ad if "your" is written instead of "you're"!

I know that you go for long periods of time without posting or commenting on LJ, which is why haven't removed you, after all this time! Good to know that you're alive and well! (From time to time I wonder what you are up to!).

Oh, my cat is always on me, or trying to get on me. Even when my laptop is on my lap, he will squeeze in between my body and lap, which is not a lot of room. When he's on me, curled in my arms like a baby (belly up), I feel like I have a child.

that's an awesome ad. did you get any good responses to it? any keepers?

Yes, I did get some good responses, but no one I'm particularly interested in meeting. I did meet one guy, but there was no chemistry.

I find it sad when honesty has to suffer because the dolts that make up the majority are scared of it.

I think your ad was great!
