On Sunday morning, I called Dave, as I hadn't seen him since Thursday, and actually got a hold of him (I had tried calling on Friday and Saturday, but he wasn't picking up his phone/had it turned off, as usual). I reminded him that it was my birthday on Monday, and he said, "I know, I remembered," but I still had my doubts that he had actually remembered, as he is not one for remembering things like that, and in fact, had asked me a couple of weeks ago if he had missed it. I'm really not one to make a big fuss about my birthday and don't expect my partner to buy lavish gifts or anything, but this year, I was really hoping that he'd do something, to show that he cares about me.

On Sunday when we had spoken, he asked me what my schedule was on Monday (he said, "Of course I remembered-why would I be asking about your schedule?"), and I told him that I had a four hour break in between classes. I don't think that we had actually made definite plans, but today after class, I called him, to ask if I should come over. His cell phone was off (as usual!), so I couldn't get a hold of him, but decided to go over anyway.

He was awake (he works graveyard shifts that start at inconsistent times, so his sleeping schedule is all over the place), and in fact, had just gotten back from buying me a birthday card, and was in the process of writing it (I had to wait outside for a few minutes while he finished writing). I was absolutely thrilled that he had gotten me a card, as it showed that he cared about me and thinks about me. I know that buying someone a birthday card is a small gesture, but for Dave, it's pretty big, so that's why it means so much to me.

In the card, he wrote a message, and one of the words that he wrote was "you're". Being obsessed with the correct usage of "your" and "you're", I noticed this, of course, but didn't say anything, as he does know the difference (he has terrible spelling, but he does know how to use punctuation and differentiate between the two words). A few minutes later, we were talking about something, and he said, jokingly, "Hey, did you notice that I spelled 'you're' properly?" I was like, "Of course I did!" Man, I'm a freak. I'm such a freak, that "you're" was the word I focused on, and it wasn't until later when I re-read the card that I noticed that Dave had written, "With loads of Love, Dave".

He didn't buy me a birthday present, but said, "Whenever I went to the store [a store near where he lives], it was always closed, so one day we should go downtown together and you can choose something out." (I don't want to mention what it is that I'm interested in getting unless I get it.) He did treat me to lunch though, and then I had to go back to school.

This evening, as I was waiting for shycuriousbbw to pick me up for Rope and Grope, I heard a knock at the door. I thought it was shycuriousbbw, but to my surprise, it was Dave's sister holding a gorgeous bouquet of flowers in a vase. She said that the flowers were from Dave, and I was really surprised, and even asked her if he had thought of it on his own-ie, that she hadn't suggested the idea to him. She said that it was his very own idea, and that he had called her the day before (she works in a flower shop), pleased that he had remembered my birthday, and had ordered a bouquet. The plan was to have it couriered over to my place, but he hadn't given his sister my address, and when she tried phoning, she couldn't reach him (big surprise!), and he never returned her messages. But their mom, who works at a school near where I live, had to drive down to pick some things up, so Dave's sister was able to deliver the flowers.

I can't believe the bouquet-it is absolutely gorgeous. It has roses, callas lillies, tiger lilles (I think), and another kind of flower, and is in different shades of red, orange, and yellow. Dave's sister works in a high-end flower shop and the bouquet is quite large, so I know it can't be cheap (just the callas lillies alone would be expensive), so I certainly don't expect Dave to buy me a present on top of this. Wow.

dave, birthdays
