Caught the end of Baby Dee (never heard of him / her!) which had some pounding piano but not to my taste. However the band was very tight and controlled, and went on to become the Current 93 band for the main performance

Tonal Y Nagual, friends of mine from Nuremberg just released their second album (on Thonar Records). Have a listen on their myspace. I'd be curious to hear what you think.
of the four tracks there - what a variety. the production was pretty good (modulo myspace bandwidth), although overall it suffered a little from over-reliance on synths (but then so does mortiis!). in places reminiscent of rose e ravine, moments of pink dots, quite entertaining, would be interested to hear them fill out the instruments and to see how they perform live. not entirely convinced about the french accents but then death in june don't exactly lose their english regional accents when they speak french either :)
Funny you should mention the pink dots, they just played a gig supporting them last weekend. :o) The style on the hidden oasis is more consistent than the one on the first album where they experimented with a variety of sounds and styles.
I just had a look, coldspring have the CD. Otherwise, I'm sure I could lend you it. :o)
Did you leave when David Tibet started weeping and they all left the stage? There was a bit of a pause and then some guy came on and did a song with enormous vocal range, don't know who he was and he wasn't introduced. Then they all came back and Sebastian Horsley joined them from the audience. There was some kidding around with David Tibet, sort of semi-spoken word stuff (apparently* backed with Lament for my Suzanne) and then he went back to his seat and Current 93 finished with O Coal Black Smith, featuring animal impressions from David Tibet including bunny hopping along the front of the auditorium.
Did you realise the bass player was Andrew "Party Hard" WK? We were gobsmacked.
I really loved the show, it was right up there with the Gira gigs in 2003 and Jarboe in 2005.
*I know nothing about Current 93, but that's what kixie has in her write up of the gig.
He wasn't introduced but the guy with the incredible (but rather purposely silly) vocal range was Marc Almond.
We suspected that some of that alcohol stuff had been flowing backstage and Marc said to David 'Go on, let me do it again, I'll be bloody fantastic!'
I thought the gig was really powerful but Iwish the vocal sound was clearer and the venue cooler... and like you my mind finds it hard to merge Andrew WK folk musician with Andrew WK brainless Yank-rocker.
Really?! Three of us completely failed to recognise him when he came back on.
Thanks for clearing up that mystery, although it raises a new mystery of how we failed to recognise him when we'd only seen him twenty minutes previously and we were in the front row. I wonder if he'd taken his make up off or something? :}
Sounds like a good night. I was a really big fan of Coil in the 90's which was one of Marc Almond's solo projects. Not much singing though, mostly electronic.
huh? which band are you referring to? afaik marc almond did vocals on one track on love's secret domain, but coil was mainly pete "sleazy" christopherson (of TG) and jhon balance... love's secret domain and the related EP were consider electronic but most of their stuff has vocals / half spoken stuff.
My confusion, I loved 'Loves Secret Domain' and read somewhere or someone told me at the time it was a Marc Almond project. It's been ages since I've heard it, to be honest. I remember being really into it but I don't have it anymore - I can't remember if it ended up with an ex-boyfriend or I sold it somewhere back. I sold 3/4 of my music when I moved back to the UK in 2000.
