YOU SUCK.

Not really, but you did suggest that I read The Crimson Petal and the White, which I did.

Loved the plot, loved the character detail...

and then the ending leaves you hanging.

Boo. Boo. Boo.

that's exactly my point! the book was awesome, and then...the ending was completely unsatisfactory...

Hrm...I don't remember the ending leaving me despondent. Then again, I actually enjoy Lady-or-the-Tiger endings.
