Major revision of the Downloads page in sight

After a good long while since the last downloads page update, I've prepared a heavily-modified version which solves the ordering problem that we were running into (a category for each new client). However, as a former support addict, I know how frustrating sudden changes to the system can be, so I wanted to run the changes past you all before ( Read more... )

I didn't think about the front page. Currently the link for UNIX is broken anyways; there is no Gtk+ section, just a GTK+ one. At least it's good to know that it bounces to the downloads page by default if there isn't a category there.

The only way I can change the text and the link on the front page is by editing the English up for translation, which I know little to nothing about. A learning experience!

Thanks for pointing that one out--I would have made a big fool of myself otherwise. ^_^

According to support requests some users seem not to understand how to download client looking at the download page. I think you'd better not just say to "watch a community" but to go to the community to find a download link.

We only say "watch a community" for updates (information about client development, user support, etc), not to download the client in the first place. Most of the clients say "go to this journal for a link" or have a website listed for that purpose.

I think it's pretty straightforward. If you have a suggestion as to what would make it more user-friendly, I'm more than happy to listen.

I was just meaning not what I think of it being clear or not for me where to get a link but that I've recently seen some requests with people saying like "I see links to other people journals but no download links". I think you'd better make also an explicit note (and maybe in bold or other color) on the front download page that those links may be found in associated communities. Some people get used to that usually all download links are rather distinct and easy to visually locate on the page and don't read descriptions entirely. That's of course if your (=official LiveJournal's) aim in not to hide such info.
