Checking In ~

Sep 17, 2020 10:28

It's time to check in and put down what I've been up to the last week.
Listing books under "want to read" on goodreads is really moving me along in the reading department. I feel motivated, or driven, to conquer LOL I really need to use lists more if they work this well on other stuff too.

Last week I finally got a digital copy of Tess of the D' ( Read more... )

the alchemist, tess of the d'ubervilles, american gods, books, outlander, diana gabaldon, my day

Sounds like you've been on a reading roll. Have you seen the film of Tess of the D'Ubervilles? THIS is a very good adaptation of the book.

I'm not sure....have you read (or seen on TV) any of the other books in the Outlander series? I've read all eight and Gabaldon is writing the ninth book right now. I've also seen all the series that have been on TV. I absolutely LOVE the books and the TV series.

I know there is a movie but I really don't like tragic endings so very reluctant to watch.

I have (and read) all the outlander books. I used to write reviews for the tv show. Just finished watching the series recently. I think we actually met at the Outlander com. I like the first one the best, I think.

Really? I don't remember that. I thought we met because of Supernatural.

I liked the first Outlander book the most, too.

Nope. When I met you, you hadn't started watching Supernatural yet. I like to think I was part of that wave that made you decide to watch XD

Oh, you're on goodreads too? add me if you want. :) Not that I get to read much these days. Heh.

I've only seen the Tess miniseried, and yes, very tragic story.

I read all of Jane Austen a few years ago, much more my speed. :)

I know there are some sites where you can get digital copies of old classics for free. I'll see if I can find the sites for you.

I'm like you though, much prefer to read a book than on a tablet, but sometime the tablet is easier to bring along.

I keep hearing about The Alchemist, will have to put it on my reading list for when I have time to read again. :)

The Alchemist is quite short. You may be able to handle it even with a baby :)

Thanks, I´d love that!

Friended!

I have The Alchemist and I still need to do my reread on that.. on top of all these other books that I need to read.

I recommend The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer, btw.

I've never asked you, but what are some of your favorite books? I never knew you majored in English. That is AWESOME!

I am very much into fantasy, adventure, mystery, time travel, history ... I have phases, and I also get obsessed then cool off so it is hard to pinpoint an all time favorite. So far I only have Outlander in that category at Goodreads at present, but another is The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. I read Twilight quite a few times and have good memories of The Host as well. I used to really be into John Irving, like a Prayer for Owen Meany, According to Garp and The Cider House Rules, for the sarcastic humor. I wouldn't mind going back to those again soon. Narnia I read so many times as a kid, LoR (my favorite is The Hobbit), of course Harry Potter. I enjoyed the historical stuff too, like Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose, Dumas' Queen Margot (and the Three Musketeers).

Yup. A double Japanese/English major. :) I wanted to be a translator. I didn't realize as a teen, that English in University had nothing to do with studying how to write well LOL At least I got to read a lot XD

I am highly considering reading the Outlander books since I started a few episodes of the series but they're sooo long! I was recommended to read Children of the Blood and Bone lol. Also really interesting choices and maddd respecttt for being an English major <3 <3 <3

True. they are long. I read the books first and I was rather disappointed with the series until I could watch it without comparing the two. The books are better content-wise imo, so it's worth the effort :P
Children of the Blood and Bone looks interesting!
