It is like a comment meme. You comment on the meme post, and the people who see you there will reply to your comment. If you want people from your flist to be able to find the comment among the ton of others, you link them to your specific comment(that was confusing at first for me).
The motive is to have a place for friends to leave you a love message and to leave messages for others. Sort of like exchanging Christmas cards :)
