Old man rant -- Why nobody can remember anything any more

Many aeons ago, a third of a century ago in fact, when I was young, I knew my home phone number. This was in a time where there was one phone in the entire house, and maybe one in the master bedroom. (and you could have any color phone you wanted, so long as it was black or white). I can still remember it now, 888-2369, even though we moved out ( Read more... )

Actually, they started giving out condoms back in my first year or two of college, the late 80's was all the rage for that sort of thing. I remember all the religious groups picketing the Kansas Union for giving out free condoms to the students. Other than the extreme ultraconservative fringe movements, most people don't consider it a big deal today ( ... )

Obama wants all medical records completely in electronic format by 2014. All those paper folders will be gone before long, supposedly to make things easier. How to keep hackers away from sensitive documents and how two different hospitals are going to communicate on a mutual patient...people like me will soon say "Back in MY day we had no problem with medical hackers! We kept all our records on honest-to-goodness wood fiber!!!"
