I have read a few pieces of meta BSG meta, and I love love love to read them. I usually stay away from meta-izing myself, because my thoughts are all over the place and generally end with my flailing my hands around and looking at the other person like, 'You know what I mean?' (This even happens in real life, I am bad at talking about things I love ( Read more... )

Eh, I would disagree with your interpretation of Athena, and I think here it goes to personal character preference. You prefer Sixes, I prefer Eights, especially Athena. I also started watching BSG with the episode "Flight of the Phoenix", which really set me up to adore Sharon and Helo.

I think Eights gets underestimated in terms of all the shit that's gone down with them, and how she was used as a tool, unknowingly, as a sleeper. Boomer was messed up, yo ( ... )

Eights, on the other hand, were manipulated (Boomer, by the Cylons with their sleeper programming, and even to an extent Gaius and the Chief) and imprisoned (by the fleet) and repeatedly threatened

But also given the most trust- Athena was not only kept alive on Galactica, she was made an officer! The humans were totally one hundred percent on board with accepting Athena, but she continually felt that she had to out-human the humans, the point where it could be argued she had no humanity at all. (See: her willingness- nay, her desire- to support the genocide of the Cylons. Her husband? Totally flipped out, but Athena? Completely down with it. What the frak.)

Based on that understanding of Eights, I think it's totally understandable that Athena freaked the frak out about Natalie and Hera, because in addition to being powerless and manipulated, now she's having visions about Roslin and a Six stealing her child, again. But there is being freaked out, and then there is completely ignoring all the facts presented to her. It's not like ( ... )

*bounces* And I love the Leonard Cohen lines.

Athena is constantly all "KILL THEM WITH FIRE" or whatever else is handy to prove that she's really human, she's super human, SHE IS MORE HUMAN THAN HER BABY DADDY, DAMMIT.
Hee, you should do meta more often, I love this. XD I actually never read that Beccatoria post, it might've been before I friended her! So this was a double-shot of Six/Eight meta for me.

(Because it was just a Six, Bill was like, I HATE YOU ATHENA GET IN PRISON but only because his girlfriend was in danger. Once that passed, he was like oh whatevs it's not such a big deal, Cylons don't matter. [Hate.])I will LAUGH SO THAT I DO NOT CRY. *hates with you ( ... )

I feel like a tool doing meta! I also feel like a failure, because I'm like, "if I keep talking I'm just going to start rambling about how much I love the Sixes and their pretty hair and faces, so I'll stop now," and then the Six paragraph winds up being shorter than the Eight one. Sigh. I'm glad I could show you that Beccatoria post! It was an eyeopener.

NATALIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. God. I can't even watch those episodes, as much as I love her, because I get all FLAMES ON THE SIDE OF MY FACE. Damn them all!.

And I think Gina's an interesting case here, 'cause like you mentioned she hesitated to kill Cain, which I thought contrasted nicely to her NON-hesitation to kill her in S2.

Heh. Her non-hesitation indeed. Ginaaaa.

'Cause I think everything that happened to her broke that part of her a little and made her pretty hateful to humanity as a whole. Then again, she's not quite fully-with-the-Cylons either 'cause of the whole blowing-up-the-resurrection-ship thing? So Gina's just on ( ... )
