So I finally saw Crash on Wednesday. I didn't hate it. I was mostly worried the movie would piss me off, but it didn't really offend me. It didn't really say anything that I thought was untrue, but it didn't say anything revelatory, either. I have to say that what bothered me most about "Crash" was (a) the "Let me say exactly what racially themed thought is on my mind at the moment" dialogue and (b) the rather clunky coincidences. I thought Ludicris' performance was the good, as well as Sandra Bullock (but I ususally like her, no matter the film).

I suppose it's good if the movie inspired contemplation in some people, but I was checking my watch the whole time and cringing. It's not that he's white, it's that he's bad.

Nice post. Very thorough. I think your sentiments were pretty much agreed upon by movie critics and film buffs; the movie was definitely not perfect (I think "clunky" is the perfect word) but it was a good start. I think maybe that's why it ended up winning Best Picture that year (although... better than Brokeback? Munich? mmmmmm that's debatable).

Anyway, you should now go see Amores Perros, Traffic, and/or Babel, if you haven't already. Same ensemble-cast genre, better films.
