The hyouteiexchange reveal went up today. As much as running an exchange can be a headache (I don't know how anyone does it without co-mods, zoesque & peacock were awesome), I had a lot of fun doing it. All you Tenipuri people need to go check out the fics and art if you haven't already and shower the authors & artists with love. There's some absolutely fabulous stuff posted. ( Read more... )

In regards to your question about writing - I tend to start at the beginning and work my way to the end, more or less in sequence. Even if I have an idea for how it's going to end, or a scene later on in the fic, they basically just stay as ideas in my head. I guess it just means that I have a rough idea of what I want, and where, but I can write it to fit the flow that I've already developed when I get there.

I don't always have the end fully realized in my head, but if I do, even if it's just the last few lines or whatever, that's usually the second thing I write. I don't know, it's generally easier for me to write each scene as I get the idea for it, even if it's not in sequence. If I think of something, even if it's just a couple lines of dialogue, that I want to use in a later scene I go ahead and write it down before I forget the exact phrasing and whatnot that I wanted.

Actually, I am the same with dialogue, I grant you. But I'm much more likely to just write a couple lines of dialogue down on a scrap of paper next to my computer rather than write it into the fic immediately.

HyouEx mod solidarity, yo. *fist bump* <3

With regards to how I write -- well. If it's a drabble or something short/off-the-cuff, I'll write in sequence. The second it goes over a thousand words or so, though, there's a chance I'll write it out of sequence, or write the part that came into my head first and fill in the blanks, so to speak, later. With massive-sized fic *cough can't recall any offhand cough* I definitely go all over the place, chronologically.

I hardly ever know both the beginning and the ending; usually it's one or the other or, memorably, neither, which means a LOT of filling-in-the-blanks for the introduction. I've been having trouble with endings in general, lately, but it's never been exactly common for me to start off a fic with the ending written.

I hardly ever write drabbles, but, yeah, I write those in order.

write the part that came into my head first and fill in the blanks, so to speak, later.

This is pretty much exactly how I work. I nearly always know the beginning or the ending when I start writing if not both. I struggle with first lines a lot, but I usually know what scene will begin the fic before I start writing. Of course, when I write the beginning or end first they often get more detailed as I write the middle.

Intriguing! I like reading about how other people approach writing. As for me, I'm also out-of-sequence, but I'll usually write a number of scenes from the middile of the fic, and after a bunch of those are written I'll work my way from the start to the end. There's normally a vague outline involved, but very rarely does the outline actually match the finished fic. :P

It would be a fun thing to have a poll over - would make for some interesting statistics!

I nearly always have a very vague outline, that the finished fic may or may not end up resembling. I've found that I generally have an easier time with a fic if I know the ending- knowing exactly where I'm going helps me get there, I guess.

I've only started in the middle once, but I don't think it really counts. My original idea for fic began with a scene in the middle, but the more I thought about the fic, the more ideas I had for other scenes. The scene I first thought of actually turned out to be the last scene I wrote.

A poll would be interesting! I might have to put one up.

I'm more or less a sequential writer. I start with an idea of where I want to end up and where I'm starting. If I get stuck, though, I'll skip the part I'm stuck on, go to where the stuck part should end up and go from there. Brain storming and idea juggling will usually resolve the rest.
