Changmin woke up slowly, his eyes adjusting to the dim light as he realized it was still dark out, and was about to settle in back to sleep when he noticed an arm thrown over his chest and a hand entwined with his. Gently running a thumb over their joined fingers, he smiled, closing his eyes as he felt Jaejoong breathe behind him, knowing that here, in this bed with its scorch marks and simple sheets, in this apartment, with him-here is where he belongs.

Chapter 26A

Jaejoong opened his eyes slowly against the sunlight that lit up his entire room and fell in shade on the two bodies entangled in bed. His body, warm and pliant against Changmin’s, refused to move as the older boy scrunched his eyes in effort to block out the sun.

It’s loud; he realized, it’s loud in here. Jaejoong could hear Changmin’s even breaths, could feel the rise and fall of his chest, the way his body moved slightly in semi-awareness. The older boy’s eyes flickered open as he took in the sight of the younger boy in his arms.

[Flashback]

“Whenever I see you get hurt, whenever I see your scars or wrap your wounds like last night… It hurts me too / It doesn’t matter to me if you’re adopted / I was happy when you called me last night / I want to help you / I want to be your friend”

It’s too quiet. The older boy put on the music loud, trying to forget the nosiness, the talking, the laughing. But as he settled in at night, closing his eyes, Jae dreamed about Changmin’s worried eyes, his anger at him getting hurt, the way he fussed over him, his gentle hands.

[End/Flashback]

Fuck, Jaejoong thought, I think I’m screwed over. He knew, he knew, that whatever’s going on with him and Changmin wasn’t going to leave anytime soon. The older boy traced the younger boy’s facial features with his finger; nose, cheeks, jaw, barely touching the younger boy’s face, as he spoke against the heady silence.

“I hope you’re gonna take responsibility for this, you know,” he said dryly. Changmin unconsciously leaned toward him, body curling up against his frame and Jaejoong could only scowl at the universe as it fucked with him. “I want you to skip class and go to the rooftop because that’s the only way I’m coming back to school, and if there’s something going on in your life, you better tell me about it or else I’m gonna kick your ass, and I want sex every night. You heard me? Every night.”

Changmin’s facial structure remained the same; his eyes were closed as his lips formed a slight smile, and his expression was relaxed and content and so goddamn happy that Jaejoong knew he wasn’t just screwed over now, it’s for fucking life, he thought. His scowl deepened as he spoke out loud, “To hell with every night. Twenty-four seven now, okay? In the bed, against the wall, on the table, down on the floor…”

Provoked with the lack of response from the younger boy, Jaejoong lifted his head and leaned forward, his lips only a breath away from Changmin’s when the younger boy opened his eyes and stared into Jaejoong’s. The older boy froze; his body still above Changmin’s.

Changmin’s voice was hoarse, scratchy as he said, “Only if you promise not to leave again.” His words were light, and spoken with a smile, but as Jaejoong searched Changmin’s eyes, he realized that it wasn’t just some joke to him, that the younger boy was scared. There was trepidation in Changmin’s eyes, trepidation and apprehension that one day Jaejoong’s going to walk out on him, that he’s going to leave-again.

Jaejoong knew, as he gently cupped Changmin’s face, that this would the time when he should say something comforting and promising; something that would assure Changmin that after everything they’ve gone through, the only time he’s ever going to leave would be when life on earth would get too fucking boring. But he’s just not that type of guy, and Changmin wouldn’t buy that bullshit for a second.

Instead, Jaejoong tilted his head and kissed him, lips against lips with enough pressure that they both sank into it within a second; soft and slick kisses with teeth and tongue that said something along the lines of, how the hell can I leave you when I love you so fucking much?

And Changmin’s kiss, as the younger boy’s arms went around Jaejoong’s neck and his body immersed into the mattress, said something along the lines of, I’m scared that when I wake up tomorrow, like all the other days of this week, it’ll be alone with remnants of dreams. When they finally broke apart, Changmin didn’t say a word and Jaejoong pressed his forehead against the younger boy’s, gently rubbing his cheek with his thumb.

They shared the air between them as Jaejoong’s lips slightly turned up, his smirk gentler and leaning towards a smile as he spoke out loud, “Guess that means you’re going to have to spend the night here again. And this time? We have to work even harder than last night.”

Changmin’s mouth broke out into a widening smile as he laughed, eyes mismatching as Jaejoong’s arms went around the younger boy’s waist and ruffled the sheet underneath them. He turned him over, going on his back as Changmin gasped and fell onto his chest, legs spreading and tightening around his hips as the younger boy fought for balance.

“Wha…?” What was meant to be a reply was cut off as Changmin’s body shuddered, the ache in between his legs overriding the throbbing pain of his lower back, a burning deep pulse that left him shaking as he bowed his head and pushed his hands against Jaejoong’s chest, his mind whirling with memories.

[Flashback]

He palmed Changmin’s thighs, feeling them tense underneath his hands as he went down and Changmin thought for a split second that he was going to suck him until he felt Jaejoong’s breath on his skin, damp and warm, and then his tongue inside his hole.

[End/Flashback]

Changmin gave out a shaky breath, a gust of air escaping his swollen lips, bitten and indented with teeth marks, as he tried to get himself in control. He could feel Jaejoong’s come still inside him, sticky and itchy within and around his thighs, sliding down now that he was moving, now that Jaejoong held him on top.

[Flashback]

His arms flew and grabbed onto the headboard as Jaejoong slammed back inside him again, his cock pushing against Changmin’s sides and striving in deep, opening him up and staying there, thick and hard and right up in his throat, in his stomach and Changmin breathed out whimpers, moans sliding out like the cock inside him as his thighs stretched and his hips pushed down.

[End/Flashback]

“Hey.” Changmin’s eyes flew open as he looked straight into Jaejoong’s. The older boy’s eyebrow was raised and his voice sounded amused, almost fond. “I know…” he paused for a moment, and Changmin didn’t have to hear him say it because he saw it, could feel it, because that’s it, right? Our relationship isn’t-never was-made up of words or confessions but rather, body language and expressions…the realistic parts of our lives that decided-our bodies that decided, to show two very stubborn people, that somehow…

“We-I-didn’t really go easy last night, and it must hurt like fucking hell, I mean, my own cock seems to be broken and-”

Somehow, we belong together. This time Changmin kissed him, soft licks inside his mouth with a hint of tongue and composed of benediction, of words of endearment and devotion that filled Jaejoong up and left the younger boy flushing, the tips of ear turning red as he quietly moved away.

“It’s going to be okay,” Changmin whispered and Jaejoong heard it for what it was-not now, today but tomorrow and maybe later.

He snorted, sliding out from underneath the younger boy as he gently turned Changmin over onto his back. His feet padded across the room silently to where his jeans lay on the floor and as he slid them on, zipping up and sliding in his belt, Changmin watched him wearily, knowing full well there was no way he could achieve that much strength and agility anytime soon.

Jaejoong caught his eye and watched the younger boy stare at him, body half-caught in the sheets as a perchance of modesty. “Now that we’ve had our moment,” he mused sarcastically as Changmin smiled, because Jaejoong could only be Jaejoong, and I doubt there’s anyone else like him. “We should figure out what to do about breakfast, since I wasn’t really expecting someone else, let alone having to feed me after all that exercise…” His voice faded out as Jaejoong walked to the kitchen, jeans slung low over his hips with his hair mussed as though he raked a hand through it.

Changmin settled down back in bed, content, when he noticed something out of the corner of his eye.

Nothing. Jaejoong closed the refrigerator door, and then opened it again, in hopes that he missed something edible in the vast emptiness of his fridge. Shit. He looked around, his head turning this way and that, but the dishes were piled high in his sink and there were only crumbs on his table and kitchen counters.

He scratched the back of his head, his hand sliding down and resting behind the nape of his neck as he finally acknowledged that there was nothing to eat. Walking back to his room, Jaejoong stopped short of going further then the threshold and said, “Well since there’s nothing in the fridge, we must as well or-”

Changmin turned his neck around slowly as he looked up at Jaejoong from the foot of the bed. He was leaning down on his knees, his feet collapsed against the wood with a sheet hastily thrown over his body and he was holding, with shaking hands, a tattered picture. A picture that was ripped and tapped and bent and put together in desperate hopes that it could stay together.

Eyes wet, Changmin opened his mouth, but no words came out. I don’t know what to say… Nameless emotions built up inside him like a typhoon wave, leaving his mind only with the thought of Jaejoongjaejoongjaejoong. “I-”

His voice was breaking as he started to speak, eyes wistful and a small smile on his face, “I-hoped, you know? But I didn’t, I d-didn’t know, I wanted to-wanted to believe that somehow you…you love-”

Jaejoong was in front of him in seconds, crossing the room and leaning down on one knee as they faced each other, eye to eye. “How long?” croaked Changmin. How long did you have this picture, how long did you suffer, alone, in this room? For how long did you…

He glanced down at the picture, with its crinkled edges and torn middle, and said, very quietly, so much so that Changmin had to strain his ears to hear him, “Before…when…when it became us, instead of-instead of just me.”

[Flashback]

“It wasn’t because of you,” Jae said shortly, eyes roaming around.

“I know,” said Junsu, continuing to smile. It was because of him right?

[End/Flashback]

“I don’t say it often,” Jaejoong continued, louder this time and as a remembrance of last night, as a single tear slipped down Changmin’s cheek, leaving a watery trail, “so you better appreciate it, okay? And I don’t want you wasting tears on this kinda shit-if you’re gonna cry, then it better on your hands and knees, cause-.” He caught the tear with his forefinger, catching it before it dripped onto the wooden floor, and stopped short when Changmin threw his arms around him and buried his face in the older boy’s neck.

Awkwardly, Jaejoong pulled his arms around the younger boy, and was stiff for a second, before relaxing into his embrace and pulling him snug against his chest. It’s easy; it’s always easy when I’m with him-it’s like I’m learning all over again. He could feel Changmin’s heart beating, felt his own match his pulse for pulse as the younger boy tightened his hold and breathed in deep. Hesitantly, Jaejoong raised his right arm and brought it gently behind the younger boy’s head, touching it for a moment before burying his hand in Changmin hair and bringing the boy even closer. When, he thought, as he closed his eyes and looked up, did I become such a fucking pussy that something like this could completely undo me? Fuck.

“Now,” said Jaejoong, voice low and quiet as they pulled apart, glancing down before looking straight at Changmin again, “we should think about doing something about breakfast, since knowing you, you’re probably hungry as hell.”

Changmin smiled, tilting his head and said ruefully, “I’m not that hungry…I mean-” Jaejoong snorted, and Changmin grinned outright again, feeling light, as if I’m watching the sea now that the storm is past, he thought as he cupped Jaejoong’s face and leaned in, and I’m not afraid to stand right at the edge of the cliff, Jaejoong’s eyes flickered down at Changmin’s lips before meeting his eyes, because I know that if I step one step closer…

He’ll be right there beside me, and for some reason, at the end of the day-it’ll be okay.
