Chapter 26B

“Do you have any idea what you’re saying? This is not same game Jaejoong, I won’t allow it,” spat Chin-Hwa, as he stared at his son from behind the mahogany desk. Jaejoong shrugged his shoulders, his body the epitome of casual reluctance to be where he was now.

“I frankly don’t care what you allow or what you don’t. It doesn’t matter to me.” His voice was low, eyes half-lidded, but his hands were slightly clenched and his body began to tighten from underneath his shirt.

Chin-Hwa angrily opened his mouth, but closed it in order to gain control of his rage. When he finally spoke, his voice was cold, with no hint of sympathy, “He will make you make you weak. I will not let you make a mockery of what I have spent my life on-if this company fails, you would do best to know that you will not be the one targeted first.”

Jaejoong’s voice was still calm when he spoke, showcasing nothing of what he felt, “You’re right.” His eyes stared into his father’s before he looked down, raising his clenched fists high enough for his father to see. “For years I’ve had my hands clenched like this and to this day I still don’t know what I’m fighting. You? The rest of the fucking world? Me? And yeah,” Jaejoog said, as he swallowed, his jaw taut, “You are right. But the thing is, I was weak, and-” he paused for a moment before continuing, “I was alone-and…we have to learn to be weak, to find out how strong we can really become, right? If I remember correctly, those were your words, were they not?”

Jaejoong stepped forward, anger radiating out from his body as he placed his hands on the table, his body hunched over the desk. He stared into his father’s face, his eyes cold and a complete replica of his father’s but his voice spoken slowly and with an undercurrent of fury. “I swear that if you touch one fucking hair on his head, this company will only be the beginning of what I will destroy.”

Chin-Hwa said nothing.

Jaejoong stormed out of the building, slamming his father’s office doors as several of the employees bowed to him, having been working with him for several weeks. Jaejoong ignored all of them as he walked out, his body only relaxing as he settled into the first seat of his car. He closed his eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath as he calmed down and his heart beat settled. He slid a hand into his back pocket and pulled out his cell phone, dialing one of the few numbers he knew by heart.

“Hey,” the older boy said, as he pulled out of the parking lot, “What are you doing right now?”

[Several Weeks Later]

The principal walked around his school slowly, noticing the club and sport activities going on as he stepped on the school pathway, his eyes drifting to the trees surrounding it. Almost summer time, and yet the flowers are still blossoming…He strolled down the pathway until he heard someone say his name. Turning around, he smiled at his secretary as she approached him.

“Sir,” she said hesitantly, clutching several papers in her right hand, “I was doing the student graduating lists and…” she paused for a moment before stiffening her shoulders and continuing, “…and well, about Kim Jaejoong…”

Changmin groaned as he ran through the school field, grass and mud sticking to the bottom of his shoes as he prayed that he wouldn’t be horribly late. It takes a while to call out all the names right? I probably missed nothing, he thought, to reassure himself. Lost in his thoughts, he didn’t know he was heading towards someone until he crashed into him, his shoes slipping against the gravel pathway lining up to the school doors as he fell backwards.

A hand appeared in front of him, helping him up. “Sorry I’m-” Changmin stopped talking as he looked up to see who it was.

[Flashback]

Piling his books together and slipping them back inside his backpack, Min was about to get up, but a hand appeared in front him, as the other hand held his map.

“Lost?” The older boy was smiling as he helped Min stand up, Min staring at him quietly. “Y-yea…I’m not sure where my class is…” Min blushed, the red creeping up into his skin, his cheeks as he looked to the floor, shy and unsure how to treat the older classman.

“Don’t worry, it gets easier after a while.” Turning the map over, Yunho smiled when he say the class number.

[End/Flashback]

“Hey,” said Yunho, as he helped the younger boy up. He’s grown taller, Changmin thought, as he brushed the gravel off his pants, and he’s more…serious? Mature? Changmin could only stare as he watched the older boy, remembering old memories and past meetings.

“Hi,” he said softly, searching Yunho’s eyes. The older boy was calm, his body relaxed as he met his first love. “Let me guess,” Yunho said, a smile touching the corners of his mouth, “you’re heading towards the gymnasium.”

Changmin could only nod, silent as he watched the older boy. He glanced down at the ground first before meeting Yunho’s eyes again, straight forward. “How are you?” he asked, a million questions packed in three simple words. Yunho stood quiet for a moment until he too, nodded.

“Good,” he said and this time, his smile was wider, fuller and Changmin grinned back. “It’s been an interesting year,” he continued, and Changmin chuckled lightly, “but yeah, I’m good.” Now, but Yunho knew he didn’t have to say the rest. It was different, this feeling, and even though it wasn’t strong-there was hurt mixed in, with a sense of something lost but regardless…It’s going to be okay, Yunho thought, looking at Changmin once again, yeah, it’ll be alright.

“I have to go,” said Changmin his hand awkwardly pointing to the gymnasium, “but it…it was nice meeting you.” It was, he thought as they exchanged smiles one last time before the younger boy picked up his pace and ran towards the gym, it was.

Yunho watched him go, memories running through his mind as he slowly turned around and walked the opposite way, his hands in his pockets as he followed the pathway down, the trees surrounding it giving him shade from the sun. He was heading towards the school parking lot when he heard shouting. Curious, he walked around the bend and noticed several guys, sophomores, I think, surrounding a girl.

Eyes furrowing, Yunho was about to step in when he overheard the conversation, and as the girl spoke, the older boy stopped short.

“I’m warning you!” Her voice was loud, and although she was shorter than all of them, she stood up to her fullest height, her eyes blazing. “If you come one step closer, I will kick your asses, don’t think I won’t. I’m a black belt at karate and taekwondo.”

One of the guys stepped closer, and Yunho automatically did the same thing, but the girl raised her arms, and another guy pulled the man up front away, saying, “She’s not even worth it.” She narrowed her eyes, but the rest of the guys soon followed suit, shaking their heads. She stared at them for a few more seconds but soon turned away. As she looked up, she noticed Yunho.

The older boy raised his hands in mock defeat as she narrowed her eyes again and said nonchalantly, “I was just passing through, promise.” She stared at him, but then flipped her hair with her right hand as she said proudly, “Well, you better be, because I wasn’t kidding back there-I am black belt at martial arts.” She raised her head, but as she pulled her hands into her jacket pockets, Yunho noticed that they were trembling.

“And I’m sure you are,” he said amused, “but you do look, if you don’t mind me saying, a bit lost.” He tilted his head and smiled slightly, watching her as she blushed slightly.

“Yeah well,” she said hurriedly, “I was just…just looking around,” she continued voice quick but still hesitant at certain pauses. “I’m going here next year, and well…I just wanted to check it,” she finished somewhat slowly. She glanced away, cursing herself in her thoughts as she squared her shoulders and began to walk towards, and past, Yunho.

The older boy followed behind her for a few short minutes, and as she turned around to face him, her mouth scowling, he put his hands up again. “Just wanted to put out a few things you might want to know before school starts.” She looked at him warily, dropping all pretenses as she looked into his eyes curiously.

“Why?” she asked, her words a question, “Who are you?”

Jung Yunho. Captain of the football team. Student body president. Soon to be senior. Someone who lost his first love. “Yunho,” he said, finally settling on simply saying, “Just-Yunho.”

“Well,” she said, awkward and fidgeting again as she continued, “thank you for your help, but I’m…I’m meeting my boyfriend and well, since he goes here,” she took a second before speaking again and Yunho had to purse his lips so that he wouldn’t chuckle, “he’ll show me everything.” She nodded, more to herself that him, “Yeah, and…and he’s the student body president!” she announced. “So, he probably knows more than you know, you.”

“Really,” he said, his hands crossing over his chest, as he covered his mouth with his hand to hide his smile. He was interested in her for some reason that he wasn’t exactly sure of, she’s this mix of shy and fierce and somehow that’s…interesting. “The student body president huh? Wow, I would have never thought you two would be together.”

“Yeah,” she nodded more convincingly, “He likes me a lot you know,” she pointed out. Yunho was silent for a moment, before dropping his hands and walking up to her. “Yeah,” he said, as he stepped one step closer and she took a step back. He raised his hand as she flinched, but he merely brushed the flower petals and blossoms that fell on her hair.

“He might,” he said, and he was so close that he could see each eyelash on her eyes. She looked down for a moment before looking up again, refusing to back down. “No, he really does.” She put her hands on her hips, “So,” she breathed out, “thank you but no.”

They stood there for another second, eye to eye, his chest nearly touching hers but Yunho stepped back, his eyes never leaving her face. “Fine, I’ll go on my way and leave you to yours miss…”

“Bom,” she said, “Park Bom actually, because that’s the way you should address me and thank you…Something Yunho.” She watched him for few more seconds before quickly turning away and hurrying towards the school doors. He stared at her retreating back, smiling, and thought, I guess…this year might be as, if not more, interesting than last year.

He started towards the parking lot again but glanced back at the school and grinned before turning back around and strolling towards his car.

“Han Chul…Han-”

Good, made it just in time. Changmin walked up towards the middle of the gym tiers and climbing up the stairs, he apologized as he pushed through the sitting crowd until he finally reached his mother.

“Where have you been?” she said, trying to speak over the applause. Changmin only shook his head as his reply and continued to push past his mother. He smiled when she took the hand of the man next to her, and nodded to Young Jun as he finally reached Junsu.

“Saved you a spot,” said Junsu, sliding over as the crowd applauded again, another student steeping up onto the dais.

“Kim Dong-Sun…” He bowed to the woman next to Junsu, smiling as Jaejoong’s mother mouthed thank you, and finally looked down at the men and women seated below him.

“Kim Iseul…Kim Jaejoong…” The crowd applauded loudly, Changmin being one of them, as Jaejoong walked down and finally onto the platform, his body laid-back and relaxed as he received his diploma and shook hands with the school diplomats. When he finally reached the last school official, the principal laid a hand over their handshake, and said, “I’m proud of you, son, we had no doubts.”

And for the first time in a while, Jaejoong had nothing to say. He bowed his head down slightly, knowing full well that without this man his life would have been completely different, and walked down the dais and to his seat slowly as the next name was called. He looked up at the tiers and automatically finding Changmin’s gaze, the older boy smirked.

As the graduation ceremony wore on, Jaejoong would find his gaze shifting towards Changmin’s and younger boy would find himself doing the same. It’s been a while, the younger boy thought, as he watched Jaejoong holding his diploma tightly in his lap, but even now, weeks later, we’re still together and I-

Jaejoong looked up again, part in reassurance, part in habit and Changmin smiled softly, I love him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Where is he?” Soo Jin searched around the massive crowd surrounding her for her son, as Junsu, as he stood at the bottom of the tier and walked through the gowned students, searched for Jaejoong.
Where’s Changmin? Soo Jin thought as her eyes looked this way and that on the school grounds.
Where’s Jaejoong? Junsu thought, as he continued to stay inside the gymnasium and walked up towards the now empty seats, where did he go?
It was late afternoon, and as the students slowly dispersed with their families, Jaejoong and Changmin watched the setting sun from the school rooftop. They leaned against the door wall, pressed against each other, with their heads slightly tilted and their hands entwined.
It was quiet and as they watched the sun slowly dip down, a gust of wind went through them, fluttering their hair and gently breezing over their clasped hands.
