“Greg! We have to quite procrastinating, or it won’t get done until the last second and then they’re stuck with it!” The brunette with the slightly swelling belly said as her husband poured himself a cup of coffee from the community pot.
“You just made deciding on a baby name sound oddly impersonal.” He said, sitting next to her in the abnormally quite break room.
“Do you really want to start with me?” Sara questioned, cocking an eyebrow.
“I really hate the fact that you can’t drink coffee anymore. You were much more pleasant with coffee in your system.” Greg replied, moving his legs quickly out of his wife’s kicking range.
“So I did some research last night while you were showering.” Sara said, pulling out a notepad.
“You were supposed to be sleeping.” Greg replied, exasperated.
“Greg, once I take maternity leave all I will do is sleep.” Sara said, frowning at the thought of spending so much time inactive.
“Fine. I can’t believe you did research on baby names,” Greg said, laughing as he sat next to Sara. “Not that it’s a bad thing or anything!” Greg quickly added when he saw the look in Sara’s eyes.
“I looked up some Norwegian kid’s names and their meanings.” Sara said. Greg smiled at her thoughtfulness. “We’re not naming our kid something without knowing what it means!”
“Makes perfect sense!” Greg said patronizingly, leaning forward to rub Sara’s belly.
“For a girl, there’s Liv, which means life; Lene, illustrious. For a boy, there’s Bryn, which means hill, but I think is a very definitive name. I’ve never known anyone with a spelling like that.”
“What about Olaf?” Greg asked.
Sara balked at the question. She had never even imagined that Greg would want to name their child after his grandfather. She didn’t want to offend him, but Olaf? The one who got drunk at their wedding and almost ruined the cake?
“Sara, I’m kidding. Breathe!” He said, laughing at her face. “But I did some research too.”
Sara widened her eyes at Greg’s confession.
“Hey, I’m just trying to, you know, help.” Greg said, defending himself. “But I didn’t find anything nearly as definitive as Bryn.”
“Hey, guys. What are you up to?” Nick said as he entered the break room.
“Picking baby names.” Greg replied, smiling happily.
“How about Nick?”
“How about…no?” Sara replied, laughing.
“That must be the hormones.” Nick replied.
“What must be the hormones?” Catherine asked as made her way towards the fridge. “And don’t ever tell a women that again if you want to have kids yourself one day.”
“Sara won’t consider Nick as a baby name.”
“Well, of course not. She’s already considering Catherine.” She replied, sitting across from the expecting couple. “Right, guys?” She said, looking at the younger CSIs.
“Uh…” Sara started.
“Oh, I think…Grissom’s calling. I think I hear him.” Greg cut in.
“Oh, I hear him too! He wants us both!” Sara said, allowing Greg to help her up and quickly making their way out the door and down the hallway.
“Catherine’s a great name!” Catherine said to Nick as he sat down. “Nick’s a good name too!
“I think any kid would be lucky to be named after us.” He replied, shrugging.
