I'm downloading the mix - I've got some Clash stuff and have tried really hard to make myself get into them, but it's never worked for me. Maybe I just haven't heard the right song yet.
They're one of my favourite bands ever ever, and they influenced three of my favourite bands so much too (the Libs, the Manics and Rancid). I love them and am very willing to give you a track by track rundown ;)
I knew they were a big influence on the Libs, and that's why I started listening to them in the first place - I hadn't heard most of the bands that influenced the Libs, the Clash included. I don't hate them or anything, I've just never fallen in love with the music. I'd say London Calling is probably my favorite of the ones I know. I'll keep trying!
That's fair enough. My favourites, for your reference, are Lost In The Supermarket, Death or Glory, Guns of Brixton, This Is Radio Clash and Police On My Back. Probably.
(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais: one of only about twelve songs ever to have made me cry. Fact.
Hmm. Twelve sounds like a lot, doesn't it? I meant to make it sound special. The end of it especially, just sounds so haunting and profound when listened to late at night. Or it does to me anyway. - Two of the others (to have made me cry) are Joe's songs too, but with The Mescaleros, not The Clash. I could add one more of his too, but I can never remember whether it actually made me cry, or just nearly.
haha! it's weird that this is going round, since I actually bought a Clash CD today. And! Yesterday someone asked for my essential Clash songs, so: Guns of Brixton, Spanish Bombs, I Fought The Law, Know Your Rights, (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais Julie's Been Working for the Drug Squad, Police and Thieves, Train In Vain, White Riot, 1977
