I think the Mac-only people are idiots. Yes, Macs are standards in some places, but they're still a minority in the world. Still, making that statement that you have to get a Mac is quite douchey.
I wish I could agree that it's douchey. But it's not a lie that "graphic designers" are expected to use only them. I mean, do they only say that because they think MAC's interface and structure looks "designy"? I feel like the really don't know themselves sometimes. I really don't know anything about computer specs, but I've used both with photoshop. Same damn thing.
The only thing that's brought up is that in the beginning of the industry, MAC sold themselves for designing purposes. So, "everyone" uses MACs. Problems of crossing a file from PC from MAC can just have stupid and costing results.
And the bull about freezing happens to them both. Once, the MAC at work was saving my file and just completely crashed.
I've had experience with both as well. I would use either one. If I got a Mac, I'd just end up putting XP on it, one way or another. And I'd get an Apple notebook before I got a Dell or Toshiba.
The only problem I've had with transferring files between platforms was when I was using my jumpdrive. It didn't like swinging both ways. And sometimes, a line or two of color would just crap out, but that only happened because I was using 7.0 on my PC for a while.
I do think you need to be proficient on the Macs, but also on a PC. You never know what the office environment will be, whether they heart Macs or if they'd much rather have the cost-efficient Windows PCs. Or maybe they just say screw that and go for Linux.
I agree with Andrew. Macs are nice in their own way, but they really are a minority. It's seems kind of narrow minded to reduce one's spectrum to mac specific. Well, at least you don't have to deal with that class.
