Merlin Pimpin' Time!

May 24, 2010 19:25

It all began as a slightly drunken conversation at a Torchwood convention, in which accioscar mentioned many Merlin fics and vids and the rest of us repeatedly replied with 'Uh, don't know it. Have you got a link?' So, accioscar, like Frankenstein once did, began creating a monster, which grew and grew until it beathed pure life and opened its eyes and lived. Or, to ( Read more... )

Hee! I knew it would get me in the end. I was content to watch the show and have my pornish thoughts, but I knew it couldn't last :OD

I didn't know that you were being sucked into Merlin.

I may possibly have about 300 or so fics that I can point you towards...

I didn't notice Pru's Drastically Redefining Protocol on the list. It's one of those must-read fics.

You know, it's interesting that you should mention DRP. I actually left it off on purpose. I know it gets recced a lot but, personally, I wasn't that impressed by it.

That's not to say it's not a great fic, but it just didn't really do it for, I'm afraid! Not enough to rec it, anyway. But I realise I'm in the minority on this one...

Huh. Now you have to read it because I wasn't that impressed with it? What are you trying to say about my tastes? ;P

I still recollect (at least the parts I can remember) that discussion with warmth, as well as all the other discussions we've had during the conventions. *g*

Life's been a bit hectic lately, or at least it's felt like it, so I haven't gotten into that rec post yet, but it's definitely on my to-do-list.

So far the recs list has been more-than-awesome. I'm loving it!! If you don't hear from me for a month you know where I went. Hee!

Merlin!!! I've got a new obsession at the moment, but I definitely remember reading into the wee hours of the morning, and 'just one more fic'.

If you liked Crown of the Summer Court, I highly reccomend you read all of astolat's stuff. It is seriously like, top-notch.

And I couldn't pass this entry by without recc-ing my favourites as well, so here you go:

In Time of Trial: It all started, Merlin realized later, when Aelfric arrived. When Uther is manipulated against Arthur by a Lord, Arthur and Merlin are forced to flee Camelot. They meet up with old friends and enemies and plan their return.

Fools of us all: One of my all time favourite Merlin stories. Funny and fantastically written. Merlin accidentally casts a spell that makes everyone in the castle fall in love with him. Well, everyone except Arthur. A future-fic where Arthur is King.

I have a special place in my heart for every-finds-out fics, because I love seeing what Arthur does about it. A couple of my favourites:

To You I Pledge

Oooh, thank you so much for the recs! That's so kind of you. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!! Feel free to rec me more at any time. Hee! :oD

I'm sure I've read Astolat's stuff in other fandoms, but I can't figure out which ones yet.

Oh yes, there is some good stuff on that list. And when you've worked through it, I have a few hundred stories I could rec *g* I have been keeping a list for sparrow2000, who I am slowly converting to the fandom. As someone who appreciates good writing, there is no way she won't eventually succumb. This fandom has attracted some brilliant writers.

Someone I didn't see there (although I might have missed it) is Seperis who has written some brilliant stuff, but more importantly, writes it well.

Looking down the comments, I have to agree with both sides on DRP - it is a warm fuzzy blanket of a fic, but it does have faults. The other M/A fics mentioned are all good, but yes, We’re A Storm In Somebody Else’s Teacup is definitely one of the best modern AUs, as is Easy There.
